What an Arm Lift Can Do for You

Similar to other body contouring procedures, an arm lift is performed to create a firmer, slimmer appearance after significant weight loss. The ideal candidate for arm lift surgery:

  • Has excess, bulky tissue left over after weight loss
  • Has loose, hanging skin on the upper arm due to age
  • Maintains a healthy, stable weight

Dr. Smith will take the time to listen to your questions and goals, and will go over all of your options with you. Many weight loss patients choose to combine arm lift with other procedures such as tummy tuck or thigh lift to maximize their body contouring results.

Your Surgery

Arm lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia. The incision runs from just above the elbow to the armpit along the underside of the arm. Excess skin is removed, and the tissues are repositioned for optimal results. In many cases, liposuction is used to further sculpt the arm.

Your Recovery and Beyond

Your arm movement will be somewhat limited for 1 to 2 weeks while your incisions heal. Most people are able to return to light activities or work within this time frame. Dr. Smith and his caring staff will monitor your progress beginning on the night of your surgery and continuing for many months after.

It may take several months for swelling to subside completely, but your new shape will be noticeable within the first few weeks. Scars will remain pink for up to a year, but will gradually fade and become almost undetectable.
